MIT official recommendation—SHAD summer school in Canada
SHAD originally started in 1981 as Shad Valley in Aurora, Ontario, and now Shad Canada offers students in grades 10 and 11 a wide range of STEAM and entrepreneurship programs and access to mentors. The program has a selection process and places are limited.
This experiential program is offered on university campuses across Canada and has benefited more than 22,000 Shad alumni. There are a limited number of places available each year, so there is a selection process to determine participants. Therefore, SHAD is also the summer school for STEAM and business innovation that is the most difficult to apply for and the most valuable in Canada . In particular, the top 6 universities in Canada have scholarships specifically for SHAD graduates. SHAD is a high-quality background improvement from prestigious universities in the United States and Canada!
SHAD graduates’ achievements to date:
• 43 Schulich Leadership Scholarship recipients (high scholarships in STEM fields, averaging CAD 60,000-80,000 per person, designed to encourage the brightest students to become pioneers in global scientific and technological research and innovation)
• 80 Rowland Scholars (the largest scholarship for high school students in Canada of 100,000 Canadian dollars over four years)
• 32 Rhodes Scholars (the world’s most prestigious scholarship program, the global “Nobel Prize for Undergraduates”)
• Member of the Prime Minister's Youth Consultative Council, well-known entrepreneur, international best-selling author, NHL president, NASA researcher, etc.

Waterloo STEM Summer School:
Catalyst Summer Program
The Catalyst Summer Program is a two-week program that offers a unique interdisciplinary approach to traditional leadership programs. With Waterloo's strengths in engineering, science and innovation, high school students develop leadership skills in community and problem-based settings - and have real opportunities to put their new skills into practice!
A second cohort of Catalysts has been added in 2024, titled "Catalysts - Early Stage Entrepreneurs" with a focus on innovation, entrepreneurship and business. This course is in partnership with the Conrad School of Entrepreneurship and Business at the University of Waterloo.
Waterloo Mathematics Summer School:
Online Problem Solving Course
The Summer Problem Solving Course is hosted by the Center for Mathematics and Computing Education (CEMC) at the University of Waterloo. The goal of this course is to develop students' ability to solve mathematical problems. Students will learn a variety of problem-solving techniques and have the opportunity to practice these techniques in key subject areas during the course. This course is best suited for high school students who have completed at least 11th grade college mathematics courses. Particularly helpful for students considering studying one of the following subjects at university: mathematics, computer science, engineering or physical science.
