University of Chicago's new ED0 application round

Application results will be announced within three weeks

The University of Chicago is a world-class private research university known for its strong academic reputation and rigorous academic tradition. The University of Chicago ranks at the top in global rankings, especially in economics, law, sociology, medicine and other fields. The University of Chicago ranks 11th in the 2024 QS World Rankings and 12th in the US NEWS American University Rankings.

University of Chicago's latest application round

The University of Chicago's new ED0 application round is actually for students who have previously attended the University of Chicago's summer school and will definitely go if they are admitted to the University of Chicago (this is a benefit for students who have previously attended the University of Chicago's summer school~)

SSEN is binding, meaning that students must enroll after being admitted. If an application is not accepted and submitted early, applicants still have the opportunity to apply to other schools in the ED1 round. The SSEN round is open to all students who have attended the University of Chicago Summer School (online or offline).

Students who are in their final year of high school and have attended a UChicago summer program during any of their high school summers are eligible to apply. Admission decisions will be received within three weeks of submitting an application.

Application period: September 1 to October 15, 2024

Why did the University of Chicago set up an early application round for summer students?

Over the years, our summer students have shared with us at the end of their programs the impact their time on campus had on their intellectual and college search processes (and for many, it convinced them and their parents that the University of Chicago was right for them). Beginning in Fall 2024, students who complete any of our residential or online UChicago Preparatory Summer Programs will be eligible to apply to the University of Chicago through our UChicago Summer Student Early Notification option. We hope this will reduce the stress of waiting, provide earlier financial aid awards to ensure affordability, and make their senior year of high school more enjoyable!

How do students learn about this option?

Summer students will be informed of the new options on campus, and parents of our summer students will be invited to attend an end-of-summer informational Zoom meeting hosted by an admissions counselor so that parents can be fully informed and ask questions.

Who is this option for?

This summer student early notification option is best suited for students who have identified the University of Chicago as their absolute first choice and will attend if admitted. Students should not rush into making a college decision, and many summer students are still exploring their college opportunities. We offer this new application option for students who have fully explored the many excellent colleges and universities and have decided that the University of Chicago is the perfect place for them.

Are there any advantages to applying with this option?

Students applying for SSEN should apply within three weeks of completing their full application.

(or before November 1) will receive a decision from the University of Chicago.

Will applying through this option increase my chances of being admitted to the University of Chicago?

This application option is best suited for students who, after studying at UChicago for some time, have determined that the University of Chicago is their absolute first choice and will attend if admitted. The University of Chicago reviews each application based on the student's school, circumstances, and opportunities. The admissions committee considers the candidate's entire application—academic and extracurricular record, essay, letters of recommendation, and optional testing—before making an admissions decision. No single piece of information alone determines whether you are a good fit for the university.
